SEGA MEGADRIVE MODEM.

EARLY ONLINE GAMING

Released so that people could take advantage of SEGA NET content ( A proprietary BBS structure, no internet available then). It also allowed for playing of SEGA NET games.

Found alone, or in the less common bundle, the MEGA MODEM was to compete with the nintendo efforts that included their online stock trading unit and eventually the ST.GIGA online system (See Nintendo Satellaview).

Small and compact, with an optional tapeless answering machine cartridge. However I have yet to come actross this item and am not positive it exists.

As you can guess the SEGA NET service wasn't popular, and soon faded. If you think about it, SEGA has had online gaming from Megadrive -Saturn - Dreamcast. Three generations of a dream of online content.

Q & A

Q: How hard is it to get these? Is it expensive? Are they easy to ship?

A: Expensive? Can be... Hard to get? Not terribly.. Cheap to ship, but uttterly useless.

Q: Should I bother? Is it worth it? Where can I get one?

A: If you are a crazy MF like myself, you'd give a child up for the bundle set. Gee now you know what that port on the back of the MD is for.... Get one? Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah <hem> hahahahahahahahahahahahahahah <wipes eyes> Try an importer and prepare to ride the shaft.
