Sega Mega Jet - JAL Airlines

The Sega Mega Jet was conceived for use by airlines. The unit was rented to passengers to help pass the long hours on flights. However, the unit was eventually sold on the open market.

The unit predates the nomad, and can be seen as proto-nomad without a screen. In my opinion  however, the Mega Jet has much more character and style.

The Mega Jet has a feel and appeal all it's own. The nomad has a weight and heft to it that makes you think twice about how you treat it. The Mega Jet is much more robust, and is appealing for daily use.

The unit sports headphone output, volume, as well as an excellent control pad / set of six buttons.

With the correct game, it is the most perfect Megadrive setup.

The nomad has a very american feel. The Mega Jet is purely Japanese in design and feel. I prefer it.

The Mega Jet has no ability to use batteries, so it must be constantly attached to a power source. We all know that the nomad is a battery eater, and after about 30 minutes, you need new batteries. So the power constraint is not really inconvenient.

The Mega Jet was produced in surprisingly large quantities. It was quickly discarded by the airlines and was soon available for purchase on the open market. Packages with several different games, the most desirable of the bundles is the Dragonball bundle. Other bundles had games like virtua racing and horse racing.

The Mega Jet can be found on Ebay with ease. Ebay merchant "Indonesian" sells them with some regularity, however, he usually sells in bulk. However, if you E-mail him he may sell individual units.

A very nice unit, and with a reasonable price of under $300. A readily available rarity.

An overall very nice addition to a collection of obscure items, if you can afford it. Buy them while you can, Indonesian only has about 200 left. That is the remaining stock in the world, so buy now!
