PLAYSTATION JAPANESE DEV CARDSET

That Japanese affinity for EISA... The dual cardset allowed development of code on an IBM system with the convenience of debugging the new code instantly on the Playstation hardware cards. The ability to emulate the CD drive and view software optimization tools as the code ran in realtime has benefits, but the software must finally be tested on stand alond debuggers, as the PC cards are not consumer Playstation hardware.

The current development hardware has been refined a lot since this cardset came out.

Notice the special connectors on the Playstation controllers.

The reference materials... unlike nintendo materials, it's not 3 feet thick.

A nice overview of the early Playstation development environment.

Q & A

Q: How hard is it to get these? Is it expensive?

A: Near useless to the average person, I wouldn't recommend you get one unless you plan on making PSone games... Expect to pay a decent amount.

Q: Should I bother? Is it worth it? Where can I get one?

A: It's grey market. This stuff isn't supposed to be available to non-developers. Worth it... no, not really.
