Built by Daewoo Korea, Zemmix is a MSX system that is designed like a game console. MSX computers use cartridges and floppy disks.
Zemmix only uses carts, and is unique as it has expansion cart functions onboard! (Like the Konami sound system cart). Released in several different forms, the pinnacle being the Panasonic MSX
Turbo R (MSX 3) A1GT in 1992.All of the games on Zemmix are bootlegs of Japanese games. I really don't know if anyone tried to get rights for Korean language versions of games, but I doubt it. Daewoo
doesn't acknowlege the system's existance! Games were left intact or translated into Korean. From high quality productions to anonymous yellow carts with text only labels, there's a suprising variety to the
games, and even Korean original games can be found! I have several games I doubt have ever been seen outside Korea. A GREAT machine, and NTSC to boot! 220/100 selectable, it's a great choice for anyone
looking for an MSX as a game system (as opposed to computer). The downside? Zemmix is rare and expensive. UPDATE! Daewoo Zemmix CPC-61W
I finally got around to taking a few pictures of the inside of the MSX2 Zemmix. My MSX2 Zemmix is a great machine. My only complaint so far being the interference I'm picking up throught the Zemmix
components. There's a lot of electronics interference here in the USA, and my attempts to shield the unit have failed. I ran into similar problems with the Megadrive CD model 1 unit. It's very well thought
out as a game console. I think it's *pretty* too. The choice of pink is strange, but it adds to the charm. 1/3 the unit is filled with voltage stepping componenents. It's nice, and keeps the
aesthetics clean and simple. But it puts out a tremendous abount of heat. The board has some form of Konami Sound System compatability in it. It's not the same as a Sound Cart, but it's... strangely close.
The sound processing is not an exact copy! So things sound different on a Zemmix. I think the sound is a bit better in some aspects. I'll add better scans in the future.
The MSX2 model has a lot of hand wiring. |
